From the Drawing Board to the Paddock - what 6 Years of Aussie Innovation Looks Like
Nearly six years ago, a group of local farmers approached All Custom Engineering with a challenge — to design a hay feed-out cart that could handle the unique demands of our local terrain, be towed behind a ute, and make feeding livestock faster, easier, and more efficient.
Andrew, our founder, listened carefully. He noted what farmers appreciated about other machines, where they fell short, and what features would make a real difference in day-to-day use. Once he had enough insights, the first Haymate prototype was built.
With the support of those same farmers, the prototype went through rigorous on-farm testing. Every trial revealed what worked well and what needed rethinking. Adjustments were made, parts were re-engineered, and performance was improved — all with one goal in mind: to create the most practical and reliable hay feeding solution possible.
In early 2020, the very first Haymate was sold. Since then, our machines have continued to evolve through countless hours of design, engineering, and testing. What began as a single model — the SR5400 (Square & Round bale, ute model) — has expanded into a full range, including the TSR5400 (tractor version) and round-bale-only models, both ute and tractor drawn, the R4000 and TR4000.
As one Haymate owner from South Australia put it: “The Haymate can carry multiple bales, and towed with a telehandler carrying 2 more bales, it makes the whole process extremely efficient for just one person. It means a tremendous saving in labour, and time. It is extremely well built, and the remotes make the machine a must-have for all feed-out operations. – We’d never go back”
From a rough prototype in the workshop to a trusted range of products used across Australia, the Haymate story is one of local innovation, hands-on testing, and a commitment to building equipment that truly works for farmers.
Today, Haymate machines are designed to make feeding easier and safer for farmers — with one-person operation, labour-saving efficiency, and the ability to feed directly from the cab of your tractor, telehandler, or front-end loader.
